Guide 01 · Planning
Before starting a poultry project
Define your production goal, choose a suitable system, estimate setup and running costs, and identify reliable sources for inputs and technical support. Plan for water, power, waste management, biosecurity and a route to market before bringing birds onto the farm.
Guide 02 · Housing
Prepare the poultry house
Plan housing around the bird type, flock size, local climate and applicable husbandry guidance. Prioritise ventilation, protection from predators and weather, access to clean water, suitable litter management and enough space for birds to behave normally. Clean and prepare the house before a new flock arrives.
Guide 03 · Daily care
Build a daily observation routine
Check bird behaviour, activity, feed and water use, litter condition and any unusual signs each day. Keep simple records of mortality, production, feed use and treatments. Contact a poultry veterinarian promptly if birds show illness, unexpected deaths or a sudden change in flock performance.
Guide 04 · Biosecurity
Make biosecurity part of everyday work
Limit unnecessary visitors, keep equipment clean, use dedicated footwear and clothing where appropriate, and separate new or sick birds according to veterinary guidance. Store feed safely and manage pests and waste. Build a disease-prevention plan with a qualified local professional.
Guide 05 · Budgeting
Know your costs before you scale
List one-off setup expenses separately from recurring costs such as feed, bedding, water, energy, labour, transport and veterinary care. Track actual spending and production results, allow for unexpected costs, and use local supplier quotes rather than relying on generic prices.
